Who we are:

The Detroit River Coalition is a binational environmental resource hub promoting community and cross-sector collaboration in the US and Canada and the only binational coalition that coordinates interested groups and people for the purpose of litter removal and protection of the Detroit River and its local tributaries.

Call:

The Detroit River Coalition invites artists in the US and Canada to participate in an Earth Day Exhibition at the Belle Isle Aquarium, scheduled for April 2022. Each artist selected will be highlighted on Detroit River Coalition website and social media accounts and will receive invitation(s) to attend the Earth Day opening reception on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the Belle Isle Aquarium. Art will be on exhibition April 21 – 24, 2022.

 Theme:

Climate Change, Climate Justice, Earth Day, Environmental Conservation, Stewardship, Intersectional Environmentalism, Marine Debris, Single Use Plastic, Ocean Conservation, Great Lakes, Detroit River.

 Goal:

Leverage art to evoke conversation and create connection between our daily lives, our communities, the environment, and climate justice. Each artist selected will have an opportunity to exhibit their work in an exhibition that will launch binational Earth Day events in the region.

All ages and mediums, including performing arts, are invited to submit.

 Timeline:

  • Submissions due March 4, 2022

  • Selection announced March 18, 2022

  • Artist responsible for delivery of artwork April 11-13, 2022

  • Opening reception, Thursday, April 21, 2022

  • Exhibition closes Sunday, April 24, 2022

  • Artist responsible for pickup of artwork April 27-28, 2022

 How to submit your work:

Please submit a digital version of your work (2-D, 3-D or written or performing art) and your artist’s statement (one page maximum) via the ‘Call for Artists’ form: https://tinyurl.com/DRCCallforArtists. The deadline to submit is 11:59pm on Friday, March 4, 2022.

 Selection process:

The selection committee will be made of (11) Detroit River Coalition members representing both the US and Canada.
